Hattie is a very fast long legged dog with an insatiable appetite for retrieving. She has more retrieve drive than any wirehair we have owned. Like her dam she is a very loving and friendly dog. She has a fantastic western bird dog coat, not too much coat and just enough beard you know she is a wirehair. She has a lovely high tailed point and a ton of intensity. Hattie’s biggest asset is her nose, ever since the first time we put her on a bird she went to it like there was a bungee cord attached to her nose. She points from long distances but knows exactly where the bird is. Hattie really struggled her first season busting birds, However we feel after seeing her learning to handle birds in her second hunting season she may be one of the best hunting dogs we have bred to date. If you put her on the ground in any habitat she will find birds even when the other dogs are struggling. Hattie came from an exceptional litter. Her litter was specifically line bred back to genetics from VC Black Canyon Gin and VC Heidlwolf Benelli on two sides of the pedigree. All of the seven pups in her litter were tested in the NAVHDA natural ability test and they scored a combined average of 110 out of a possible 112, which is a fantastic show of her good genetics. Hattie’s Dam Blue came from a litter that all five of the puppies tested in Natural Ability received 112 prize one maximum Natural Ability test scores.

We Purchased Big B as a puppy from Dr. Trevor Ferguson DVM.  owner of Canyon Creek Kennels in Missoula Montana. Trevor is our primary vet for all of our dogs and who we often use for AI breedings.

Big B has long legs and a strong muscular build. He has an ideal coat for hunting that is dense and harsh. He is an incredibly sweet dog with a very happy temperament and the strongest off-switch of any wirehair puppy we have ever had.

Big B spent his first hunting season chasing prairie birds in Montana and North Dakota and had a great first season. During his very first hunt on September 1st at only 5 months old he found, pointed, and retrieved a Hungarian partridge. He has a lot of natural point and massive run that worked well in the prairies, and he would pound through cattails to pin elusive roosters. In open country he is consistently pushing to the farthest ridges and has fun doing it. Big B paralyzes birds and has done fantastic on quail, huns and chukar in Oregon during his second season. He has consistently been our top guide dog at Bachman Bay Outfitters. His ability to pin wild upland birds has been the best we have seen and everyone loves watching him hunt he is very animated.

Big B hit the horseback field trial circuit in 2022 with a vengeance. He was ranked as the #2 puppy/derby dog in the national GWPCA rankings, narrowly missing the top spot. He won the GWPCA National Derby Classic and took 3rd in the National Field Futurity. We will never forget watching him lap the course on the Prairie Wind Ranch, at one of the most difficult and steep field trial grounds in the United States.

A first-time handler, handled Big B in his Natural Ability test at only 5 months old. While he didn’t score his best (P3), we decided not to re-run him and focus on hunting and field trials. He still has his moments lacking cooperation, but he loves retrieving and water as he has matured.

In the AKC show ring, he dominated every show he entered winning 4 majors in a row and finishing his championship title shortly after that.

Big B’s sire Gus is the top producing AKC field stud in all history. He was a dual champion and has produced more FC, AFC, MH puppies than any other wirehair in history. His dam is GCH CH Claddagh Ring it in Sula NA1 UT2 a very talented dog that comes from a mixture of famous field trial dogs from Backwoods kennel and some nice UK imports including Sula's mother Karmin who is the only VC DC wirehair in history of the breed.
