Mountain Quail hunting in Oregon

Season Dates: Although the season runs from September 1- January 31 in much of the state. We only guide during December so that taxidermy quality birds could be harvested and birds have migrated into areas that can be hunted with pointing dogs.

For this hunt we require a three day minimum on a private property hunt. The daily bag limit in the area we hunt is two birds. Mountain quail are spectacular to look and and in some places very difficult to find. Many of our hunters are looking to fill their quail slam and would like to mount one bird. We do not combine this hunt with other species mountain quail are unique and often the only gamebird that is living in the steep forests during that time of year. Hunters must be in good shape and able to walk 4-8 miles in a day often in snow. This is not a drive around and shoot mountain quail hunt this is a walk in pointing dog mountain quail hunt which is very hard to come by.
We stay in motels or airbnb for this hunt.

We teach our hunters about the biology and natural history of this bird species. What it eats and how how to find these birds at different times of day including techniques to get them to hold for pointing dogs.
