Chukar Partridge (Alectoris Chukar)
The Iconic bird of the Oregon rimrocks on the high desert. Chasing these bird affords incredible vistas and views. People ask me when I like to hunt chukars. I usually say, I like early season because of to see the big flocks, I like the middle of the season cause the birds spread out on the flats and I like the end of the season because its finally over!
Hunters must be in good shape and able to walk 4-8 miles in a day. We dont hunt hells canyon type country but there is some hills and rocks we try to find ridgetops and flatter areas or downhill only hunts. Either way we guarantee you will sleep well after a night of chasing chukars.

Hungarian or Gray partridge hunting (Perdix perdix)

If you have never hunted huns there is somthing very special about the way they flush in unison and scream as they do it. Our huns are different these aren't prairie huns. These are rangeland huns that have never tasted grain, never hung out in the old cemetery or behind the homestead. These are wild sage steppe huns that live in the waterless flats with sage grouse and in the tallest mountains with chukars. These huns tend to be in smaller flocks and difficult to approach. They can also be incredibly rewarding to hunt. Often we can find huns in flatter ground but there is still a lot of walking between covies.

California or Valley Quail (Callipepia californica)
Private lands California Quail hunts that have big covies and exciting flushes. Although these quail are often found on the valley floor the first thing they tend to do is go up hill and into the rocks when pressured. Nothing beats a big covey of California quail spread out in flat open country with tight holding singles leads to the most fun dog work you will ever see. Dogs on point in every direction birds that hold so tight you have to touch them with your boot then somehow they still get away!

We have best luck with quail when we focus a day specifically on chasing quail. However we are often able to sneak in an afternoon of quail covers.
