About Carp:

What's in a name? I work as a federal wildlife biologist, where we work diligently to eradicate invasive common carp. Carp are tenacious, hardy animals that thrive in the worst of conditions. We named our girl after this fish and she has not disappointed her namesake!

Carp is a snappy long legged Jackal of a wirehair. She has a nose that pulls her like string to birds. She loves to play fetch and hits the water with a massive leap and splash. Carp has a great off switch and is a beloved house dog she is sweet and just wants to lay her head on your lap day or night. Carp is a very smart dog and often gets herself into trouble by figuring out how to open doors and windows.

Carp hit the horseback field trial circuit in 2022 and ended up as the top ranked field trial wirehair in the nation in the puppy/derby division. She won the GWPCA National Futurity at the Prairie Wind Ranch in Payette Idaho one of the most rugged and steep field trial grounds in the United states. Carp saved up her best run of the year for that run and stayed far out front, hitting ridgetop and rock outcropping objectives finding multiple birds. Famed wirehair field trialers John Williams and Jeff Calkins both looked at me and said that is gonna be a hard run to beat...and it was! Carp placed in all but one of the field trials she entered in. She has been a very consistent field trial competitor especially considering she was mostly running against other breeds.

Carp's dam Hattie is one of the best dogs we have produced an easy prize one Utility dog with and incredible tracking ability. Carp is very much like her mother. Carp's Sire Ozzy comes from a long line of VC wirehairs from Top Shelf Kennels in North Dakota. Ozzy brings a lot of cooperation to BBK lines and it is very evident in carp.

Brisco was known for being a hard-charging, powerful dog with extremely high bird drive. He was a biddable and easy to train dog with a lot of natural talent. He earned his VC title before he was even three years old which was very young for the time. He has a very nice dense and harsh coat and good strong feet that kept him protected while doing week long hunts in Texas thorn country as a guide dog on a quail ranch. I never personally saw Brisco hunt on wild birds but our Co-breeder Jeff Jalbert, hunted over him and was really impressed with the dogs ability to pin wild birds and his extreme stamina.  Although he only produced two litters before he died his pups had an average Natural Ability score of 107/112 for the 9 that were tested and 4 of his puppies received utility prizes.

Brisco’s sire “Parker” was a heavily used stud dog during his life and produced many Versatile champions and dozens of Utility prized pups. Many breeders consider him the top NAVHDA stud dog of his era. Brisco’s Dam “Lucy” was a powerful, gritty, slick-coated bitch with a strong bird dog drive. I personally owned dogs from Lucy’s sire (Pete) and dam (Sage) and loved both of my pups from those litters. Some of the most prominent foundational dogs of the Three Devils Kennel line are in this breeding. While researching this line of dogs I found that many of Brisco’s close ancestors and one of his pups was still hunting at 15 plus years old. I personally value dogs that are long-lived and still hunting hard late in life.

Parker was Brisco's sire and is a true specimen of a wirehair with a stunning harsh coat and well-built body. He came out of some of the top German lines of the 1980’s and has vastly improved the breed.

Parker was an incredibly prepotent male from the 1990s owned by John Crozier. The dog was an excellent grouse, woodcock and pheasant dog that also excelled in the wetlands retrieving waterfowl. Many of Parker's pups were well known high talent hunting dogs and his genes are found in many of todays modern pedigrees.

Parker’s progeny reports are impressive. In ~15 breedings he received 10 Natural Ability Breeders Awards, 1 Utility Breeders award and 1 Invitational Breeders award. He sired 110 pups that received Natural Ability prizes, 52 Utility prizes and 8 versatile champions. He also sired a dog named Titus AFC NFC FC Wingmaster's Bullet MH who was an extremely talented horseback field trial dog. Many breeding programs used his progeny as the foundation for their lines.
